Cats and dogs make for the most interesting subject for your camera. While children are the most fulfilling subject of all, a lot of photographers settle for the next best thing: animals. Taking good or even outstanding pet pictures is not really difficult. However, there are techniques that can make the job a lot easier and almost guarantee good pictures. Using the basic techniques on a camera with changeable shutter speed and stops will definitely make this job a lot simpler and easier.
What sets a picture apart from a regular snapshot is being able to clearly show your pet’s face and expression in full detail. To do this, move closer to your pet and fill the frame with its face. In case you have a huge pet, this shouldn’t be a problem. You still need to move closer to your pet’s feed, even when working with a fixed focus camera. As you prepare to take the picture, ask your friend to use rattles and toys to get the animal distracted. If your pets stray away from the set, you helper should take care of chasing them back in. A longer cable release should help a lot if you don’t have help. The only thing you have to worry about is not tripping on the camera wire, but the rest will be easy. In order to keep the animal inside the shooting area, you can use a prop or for it to play with.
